SOLAR POWER
As the Landmark and MQ telemetry systems are designed to be ultra-low power consumption they are ideal for use with solar powered systems. Thus the system may be installed in remote locations where there is no power available and be able to run off a simple solar panel which is used to trickle-charge a battery to keep the unit working overnight.
Solar Panels may be mounted remote to the unit on a pole or mast to ensure maximum sunlight - as shown in the above picture, or integral to a GRP cabinet containing the telemetry transmitter, solar regulator, battery and antenna as shown on the left.
Landmark and MQ also have the facility to power up a sensor just before the reading is taken and transmitted. In this way, the sensor need not be powered all the time - the telemetry system will power it up only at the times when a reading is needed - thus conserving power.
